A Life of FreedomGreetings once again from WLS 2008. We’re really into our second full day of WLS with our theme called Breaking Free and I’ll tell you what, that is exactly what we’re seeing happening here at WLS 2008. We heard Ron give a powerful Gospel message. He told me as he was getting ready for it and we were praying together before the service, that he’s never preached an evangelistic message from the book of Genesis. He did a tremendous job as he unfolded the truth about God’s pursuit of us before we ever come to Him, like God pursued Adam and Eve when they were hiding from Him in the garden. It was awesome because God used Ron in a very powerful way to share the truth of the Gospel, and because of that we had over ninety young people come forward to an altar of prayer, and make a spiritual decision for Jesus Christ. Some of them came and began a personal relationship with Christ. Others came and were freed from past bondages of disobedience, and there was genuine tearful repentance in the hearts and in the lives of many Native young people. It was incredibly powerful. A strained relationship between us and God has to be restored. For many of us, we’ve had that relationship restored through the cross and know what it’s like to be free. We know the joy of what it was like back when we gave our life to Christ. There’s a fresh new joy that is being poured out here at WLS 2008 in many Native young people’s lives. It was an incredible night.
We’ve tried to build our messages precept on precept, theme upon theme, and it’s like a stepping stone up to a liberated life and a life of freedom. Ron talked about the freedom we can have breaking free from sin that has held us back, and then I had the wonderful privilege of taking the issue of forgiveness even one step further. I spoke about the freedom that comes from being able to forgive others who have hurt us. Issues in my own personal past tore me down and broke me down, but all that changed when I understood the power of forgiveness. I was able to forgive those who hurt me and find freedom. There were many young people today who made some very concrete action steps in breaking free through the power of forgiveness. They’ve experienced God’s forgiveness and now they’re extending forgiveness to others who have hurt them. Our theme of breaking free this year is being lived out in the daily messages being preached. Words of instruction are being given on how to break free, and youth are taking the steps to find that freedom in Christ. We’re excited about what is going on. We have about seven or eight veteran Native Christian leaders, some in the corporate world and some in ministry work who’ve been serving the Lord faithfully for many years, teaching our breakout workshops. Some will be speaking on how to find God’s plan for your life. Others will discuss some of the horrific drugs that are invading our reservations. We have the Chief of Police of the largest reservation in America, the Navajo Nation, here talking about the curse of meth and how that’s breaking down so many Native young people. He’s connecting so well with the youth. We have a Native leader in the corporate world, the Senior Vice President for one of the large national banks in America, talking about finding God’s plan for your life. I’ll tell you what, we’re excited about the lineup we have here at WLS 2008. Wonderful, mature, Native Christian leaders are helping these Native young people reach their goals and achieve the dreams God has for them. We’re looking forward to some more powerful worship and incredible teaching, and God doing His work in the lives of every one of these Native young people who are in attendance. Keep praying. Keep going with us on the journey. It’s just starting and we’re looking forward to seeing what God will do. God bless! |
