It was a strange team meeting. We started off praying together and going over some ministry things, and then the question came – “Can we do a Thanksgiving dinner for the youth next week?” Sure, that may not sound weird, except that it came at the beginning of October! Before you think our team is that desperate for turkey and stuffing, know that half of our ministry staff are Canadians who celebrate Thanksgiving earlier than the U.S. So, Thanksgiving this year came early in our neck-of-the-woods.
We’ve had a similar thing happen in our lives these past few days and weeks. Your calendar may say that Thanksgiving is still a couple weeks away, but personally we have certainly experienced some great reasons for giving thanks this year that can’t wait until we chow down on turkey. The Lord intervened in a serious health situation with one of our children, He has given us wisdom in an ongoing big ministry challenge, and He has provided great joy where there could have been great stress. Praise the Lord for His goodness and faithfulness!
So, what do you have to be thankful for? It’s easy to focus on the daunting challenges and to take our eyes off of Jesus during the hard times. Why not stop right now for a few moments and thank the Lord for some of the amazing things He has done in your life. If you’re having a tough time getting started, start with when you first grabbed hold of Jesus and go from there!
If you want to share some of your ‘thanks’, feel free to post them on the discussion board. I’m sure others would be encouraged to hear how the Lord has worked and is working!
