WLS Final Update: Thank You - July 3, 2007 Print E-mail

Thank you for praying for Warrior Leadership Summit!

  • It was more than just a Native discipleship conference – it was a gathering of nations – 60 of the original nations of this land were represented there!
  • Nearly one-third of the Native young people attending opened their hearts to Jesus Christ!
  • God did a mighty cleansing work as many WLS attendees renounced the sins and “idols” that have enslaved them for so long.

A Showcase of Amazing Gifts and Talents

I want to tell you a little bit about what happened last night at Warrior Leadership Summit. Ron did an incredible job of motivating and challenging the Native young people to go home to be rescuers of our people back on our reservations and reserves across Canada and the United States. These Native youth really grabbed hold of that concept and of that truth.

Last night, we had a fun event after the main session called “Native American Idol.” Our first judge was Vince Carter, who was an All-American football player for the Oklahoma Sooners. We are blessed to have him with us this year. Another judge was a Native gal who really imitated, acted, and even looked like Paula Abdul. Another Native young man, a real suave kind of guy, was also one of the judges.

The talent on stage last night from these Native young people was amazing. We had guitarists, music artists, someone doing a reading, a pianist playing classical music, and rock style music. It was all across the board in terms of artistry. The quality and talent of these Native young people is very impressive. This Warrior Leadership Summit is a showcase of the amazing gifts and talents that God has given our Native young people. They were shining bright last night. Native American Idol was an incredible success. We were just thrilled with how these gifts and talents came through in these young people.

A Wonderful Beginning

Update from Ron Hutchcraft

The momentum is really building at Warrior Leadership Summit. We were just talking about how God seems to be doing a lot early. He seems to be fast-tracking to the work He wants to do here.

There are sixty nations represented here at WLS. This is not just a Native youth conference, but it is a gathering of nations.

You can’t help but to think about the multitude the Bible describes as being around the throne of the Lamb singing His praises from every tribe, language, and nation. You get a sense of that here. There are representatives from sixty of the original nations of this continent singing praises to Jesus Christ at the top of their lungs.

Last night, one Oji-Cree young lady from Canada got up and told her story. She said that one year ago last night, at Warrior Leadership Summit 2006, she had an encounter that she hadn’t expected when we talked about the cross of Jesus Christ.

Under the Banner of Christ

Update from Ron Hutchcraft

It’s so hard to imagine how a Native American young person must feel coming into Warrior Leadership Summit. Let’s try to walk in their shoes just a little bit. If you are a Native American young person who is a Christian, you are a part of an extremely rare and small group of individuals.

There’s hardly any such thing as someone who is young, Native, and follows Christ. Probably the word that would best describe their experience in Christ is “alone.” Suddenly they walk into this room and there are hundreds of Native young people. It is mind blowing. One young man called it culture shock, but he said that it’s great culture shock.

Over and over we are hearing “I’ve never seen anything like this. I’ve never known of so many Natives in one place under the banner of Christ.”

This morning I had the joy of looking over the crowd and seeing the radiance and the passion of Native young people now knowing they are not alone. This is an “us” here and not just a “me,” and that is the power of this gathering. I think that one of the things that is happening, in answer to the prayers from friends like you, is that we really are on a spiritual fast track and already there are spiritual things going on and it’s still very early.
